Immigration update

Congress returned to the immigration issue last week in an effort to pass legislation before the midterm elections in November. Last Thursday, the Senate passed a bill authorizing construction of 700 miles of fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border. The bill did not include a guest worker program. The guest worker provision, supported by President Bush and many Senators, would have created more legal paths to work for immigrants and undocumented workers.
