Martha’s Table: Helping the homeless

By Daniela Vlacich

October 25, 2011

Martha’s Table provides nutrition and support.

Martha’s Table aims to help D.C. area youth by addressing the problems faced by poverty-stricken families and individuals. Martha’s Table provides a support system to underprivileged families by caring for children in a daycare and after school program, supplying them with food and educating parents on breaking the cycle of poverty. McKenna’s Wagon, run by Martha’s Table, also serves the community by distributing food in the District at several locations on a daily basis.

Martha’s Table receives its funding from a variety of sources including government grants, churches, private foundations and individual and corporate donations.

Under current economic conditions, the government is unable to provide the same level of funding as it had, but Martha’s Table continues to thrive and help those in need thanks to the community’s generosity.
